‘Over and Under, Above and Below, Through the…’ exhibition of works made by pupils from Priory School’s Oak Centre, March - September 2024.
A series of schools workshops were run at Charleston in Lewes and at
Priory School where students and teaching staff immersed themselves in
sculptural and textiles-based processes. They worked with a variety of
materials to create individual pieces in response to the exhibition at Charleston in Lewes by Jonathan Baldock. On their visit to the exhibition at the start of the workshops, one student filmed swirling viewpoints of the
exhibition. This
short film was shown in the exhibition.
Two collective works were installed reflecting the processes of making,
viewing and physically experiencing the exhibition. Reflecting themes of
hand movements in wrapping, coiling, weaving and growth through seasonal
cycles, the exhibition reflects heightened senses of walking and being
amongst natural forms.
Thank
you to the pupils, teachers and support staff from Priory School’s Oak
Centre, Head of Community Engagement Nick Kidd and the Charleston Trust.
