An exhibition of works by pupils from Priory School’s Oak Centre
at Charleston in Lewes
March – September 2024
A series of schools workshops were run at Charleston in Lewes and at Priory School where students and teaching staff immersed themselves in sculptural and textiles-based processes. They worked with a variety of materials to create individual pieces in response to the exhibition at Charleston in Lewes by Jonathan Baldock. On their visit to the exhibition at the start of the workshops, one student filmed swirling viewpoints of the exhibition. This short film was also shown in the along with the works.
Two collective works were installed, reflecting both the physical process of making and the sensory experience of moving through and around the exhibition. These pieces evoke hand movements and natural forms, inviting viewers into an environment bright with natural light and shaped by heightened perception, growth, and material curiosity.
Thank you to the pupils, teachers and support staff from Priory School’s Oak Centre, as well as to Nick Kidd, Head of Community Engagement and the Charleston Trust.
